Bima, Suaraberadab.com – August 29, 2024 STKIP Taman Siswa Bima held an engaging international webinar on the theme “Exploring the Issue of Literacy, Numeracy, and Inclusivity in Education in the Contexts of Indonesia and Thailand.” The event attracted 122 participants via Zoom and dozens of others at the Beradab Hall, bringing together students, teachers, lecturers, and members of the public.
The webinar began with the national anthems of both Indonesia and Thailand, setting the tone for a fruitful discussion between the two nations on shared educational challenges and opportunities.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Chairman of STKIP Taman Siswa Bima, Dr. H. Ibnu Khaldun Sudirman, M.Si., who emphasized the importance of the event.
“We are delighted to have you join us as we delve into these critical issues that affect educational practices and outcomes in both nations. This webinar is not only an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge but also a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration.”
He continued, “Let us leverage this chance to learn from each other and build stronger educational frameworks that can benefit learners in Indonesia, Thailand, and beyond.”
Following him, Mr. Voravate Chonlasin, Executive Director of AIT Extension at the Asian Institute of Technology Thailand, highlighted the broader significance of the webinar.
“This webinar promotes global education. What we are trying to do here is very important, not only for Indonesia and Thailand but also for communities in ASEAN, the Asia-Pacific, and around the world. It’s a way to recognize how we can advance fundamental education.”
He added, “We would also like to send the message to the world that numeracy, literacy, and inclusivity in education mean engaging all stakeholders to get involved.”
Dr. Ummi Khaerati Syam, S.Pd., M.Pd., Director of APSPBI (Association of English Language Education Study Programs), expressed her gratitude and optimism. “I truly appreciate this event. I really hope this webinar will be beneficial for all of us. We are looking forward to the upcoming events of APSPBI.”
The webinar then moved into the presentation of materials, with key speakers diving deep into relevant topics. Ms. Sowirin Chuanprapun, Project Officer at UNESCO Bangkok, delivered a presentation titled “Inclusive Education and Lifelong Learning: Situation and Trends,” emphasizing the importance of inclusive practices in education and the global movement toward lifelong learning.
Next, Dr. H. Ibnu Khaldun Sudirman, M.Si., returned to present on “Literacy and Numeracy in STKIP Taman Siswa Bima,” sharing the institution’s approach to enhancing these fundamental skills in their curriculum.
The discussion, led by moderator Ramli, M.Pd., was lively and interactive as participants showed great interest in the themes presented by both speakers. Questions and insights flowed as the audience engaged with the material, eager to apply the ideas to their own educational contexts.
The webinar concluded with the presentation of certificates to both speakers, in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the event.
This international webinar served as a significant step toward building stronger educational partnerships between Indonesia, Thailand, and the broader ASEAN region, while addressing the pressing issues of literacy, numeracy, and inclusivity in education. (Team)
